Summer Clouds

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

Thunderstorms? What thunderstorms?

Monsoon season in the southern Mojave Desert begins in early July. As monsoons go, ours (southern California) always seem kind of wimpy, especially when compared with monsoonal weather in other desert areas of the southwestern United States. But I’ll take what I can get and be glad for it. The day I made this photograph I’d driven out to Joshua Tree National Park after hearing reports of thunderstorm activity.

The video below from July of last year shows what I was hoping to find.

Turns out I was a day late and a dollar short, as they say, and found only clear skies and white clouds. That happens sometimes, especially when weather is involved. Still, I was glad to have spent the day in the desert.
