Tikka Masala

Dinner tonght.

When I look at a plate of chicken tikka masala and green beans, I like to think I am making a reasonably intelligent contribution to my own nutritional well-being, although I have never actually consulted anyone qualified to make that determination. The chicken gives me protein, the green beans provide vegetables and fiber, and the creamy, spicy tikka masala sauce provides whatever it is that makes me happy enough to eat the vegetables in the first place. I can even tell myself that the tomatoes count for something healthy, although I suspect their primary purpose is to provide a convenient vehicle for butter, cream, and spices. Still, after several decades of eating, I have learned that a meal doesn’t have to be perfect to be worthwhile. If I can get some protein, some vegetables, and a generous amount of delicious sauce onto the same plate, I consider the day’s nutritional responsibilities reasonably well handled.
