Foxtail Fountain Grass (Cenchrus alopecuroides) is an attractive ornamental grass prized for its graceful, arching green foliage and distinctive bottlebrush-like flower spikes that rise above the plant in summer and fall. It forms a dense, rounded clump and is popular in gardens because it is relatively drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and provides movement and texture in the landscape. It is generally considered non-toxic to dogs and cats, so it is not usually a poisoning concern if a pet nibbles on it. However, eating large amounts of grass can still cause mild stomach upset, and the plant’s stiff flower bristles can potentially irritate the mouth or digestive tract. As with any ornamental grass, it is best to discourage pets from eating large quantities.
