Monte Cristo Sandwich

The Monte Cristo sandwiches at most restaurants today are weak imitations (shown here) of the ones I grew up with. They’re just dry slices of ham and turkey between two slices of French toast. Rarely will I order one when I’m at a restaurant and see it on the menu. And my kitchen isn’t equipped with the kind of deep fryer needed to cook a Monte Cristo the right way so I guess I’m out of luck when it comes to enjoying a Monte Cristo like the ones of my youth. Maybe I should look for one at an upscale restaurant instead of the cafes I usually frequent. That might do it.
