Lily of the Nile

Before Lily of the Nile ever sends up its tall stalks of blue or white flowers, the leaves are already putting on a quiet show of their own. Long, strap-like, and deeply lined with parallel veins, agapanthus foliage grows in graceful clumps that can look almost architectural when the light catches it just right. In strong sun, the leaves shift from deep green to glowing yellow-green, while overlapping blades create bold shadows, angles, and repeating patterns. Up close, they become less about the plant itself and more about shape, texture, light, and contrast—proof that sometimes the leaves are every bit as interesting as the flowers.
