Asian Pear Flowers
Asian pear flowers are delicate spring blossoms that usually appear in clusters before or alongside the new leaves. The flowers are typically white, with five petals surrounding prominent stamens that may begin pink to reddish-purple and darken as they mature, giving the blossoms a striking contrast. Pyrus pyrifolia, native to East Asia, is grown both for its ornamental spring display and for its crisp, juicy fruit. The flowers are especially important to bees and other pollinators, and successful pollination in spring leads to the round, apple-shaped pears that ripen later in the season. This photograph captures the flowers at a particularly attractive stage, with the white petals and deep pink anthers standing out sharply against the soft background.
