I was heading up to Bishop and the eastern Sierra Nevada when I took this photo. It’s in California’s Mojave Desert at the intersection of Garlock Road and U.S. Route 395, just north of the small town of Johannesburg. There isn’t much to see out there. You are looking east from Garlock Road where it dead-ends into a T-intersection with US-395. Turning right puts you on US-395 South, taking you 1 mile into the unincorporated community of Johannesburg and neighboring Randsburg. Turning left puts you on US-395 North, 22 miles from the city of Ridgecrest. I went left.
