My folks were stationed in Germany in the late 1940’s, where my mom learned to cook a few popular local dishes. Rinderrouladen and spätzle were two that I remember her cooking in later years as I was growing up. My version is quite different than the original dish (or hers, for that matter). Over the years I’ve left out so many ingredients that I probably shouldn’t even call it rouladen. More like fried beef roll-ups, but rouladen sounds more appealing so I’m sticking with that.
