Ghost Plant (Graptopetalum paraguayense)
February 1, 2026
Ghost Plant is especially well suited to growing in pots on a sunny patio, where its sprawling stems can trail over the edges of containers and gradually form clusters of silvery rosettes. It does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix and a pot with good drainage, with several hours of bright light or gentle morning sun each day. Water deeply, then allow the soil to dry almost completely before watering again, since constantly damp soil can quickly cause rot. In hot inland Southern California conditions, some afternoon shade can help prevent scorching during the hottest part of summer. Older stems often become long and bare, as in this photograph, but the rosettes are easily cut off and replanted to create new, fuller plants.
