Towering convective clouds like these are a familiar and fairly common sight along eastbound Interstate 10 across much of Texas during the warm season, particularly from late spring through early fall when intense daytime heating and abundant moisture fuel vigorous atmospheric development. On many afternoons, travelers can expect to see large cumulus clouds building into impressive vertical formations, especially across central and eastern portions of the state, while similar scenes may also occur farther west during the summer monsoon or ahead of approaching weather systems. Although not every day produces clouds of this exceptional size and definition, dramatic cloudscapes like these are frequent enough that they have become a hallmark of summer driving across the broad Texas landscape, where expansive skies allow their immense scale to dominate the horizon.
