Another safflower flower. Safflower oil is made from the seeds that develop after the flowers of the safflower (Carthamus tinctorius) have faded and dried. Once the mature seed heads are harvested, the seeds are cleaned and pressed to release their oil; the oil may then be filtered and, for many commercial products, refined to remove impurities and improve its color, flavor, and shelf life.
