The distinctive tiled dome of the Redlands Main Post Office is the work of architect G. Stanley Wilson, whose firm also contributed to Riverside’s famous Mission Inn, including its International Rotunda wing. Designed during the early 1930s, the Redlands post office combines Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival architecture with Moorish influences. Its octagonal dome, covered in geometric blue-and-cream tiles, bears a striking resemblance to architectural features at the Mission Inn. Unlike the more restrained government buildings of the period, Wilson’s design features an asymmetrical layout, decorative ironwork, and elaborate tilework. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It’s an unusually ambitious piece of architecture for a place where most people simply want to mail a package.
