Many years ago, I sold my Takamine G Series 12-string acoustic guitar, apparently during a brief period when I was not qualified to make important life decisions. At the time, I probably told myself I didn’t play it enough and could use the money; now I mostly remember that glorious, shimmering 12-string sound and wonder what possessed me. Somewhere out there, someone else is happily strumming my Takamine while I sit here listening to six strings and thinking, “Well, this is only half a guitar.”
Pete Seeger pretty much nailed it on the head, though, saying, “When you play the 12-string guitar, you spend half your life tuning the instrument and the other half playing it out of tune.”
