A parking structure probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when looking for something worth photographing, but this one at the hospital in Loma Linda, California, caught my attention. The sweeping concrete ramps, repeating horizontal lines, and stark vertical supports create an unexpectedly graceful bit of architecture. In black and white, the ordinary function of the building almost disappears, leaving behind curves, shadows, and layers of geometry. Sometimes a photograph is less about where you are and more about noticing shapes and patterns hiding in plain sight.
