We often like to think that most things in life are either open or shut, right or wrong, yes or no. Unfortunately, life seldom cooperates. Doors that appear closed may offer possibilities, while those standing open don’t necessarily lead anywhere worth going. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t deciding which door to take, but figuring out whether there’s a door at all. Perhaps that’s why we find simple answers so appealing. They spare us the inconvenience of considering a third possibility.
